4Not perfect, but for a 1080p 46" for less than $1100, it's almost there.
By P. Denney
I bought this a week ago, and have been thrilled with it so far. I have only noticed 3 negatives: (1) the lamp is a bit too noisy (though I have heard this is temporary, and mine is starting to get better); (2) the viewing angle is not great -- but it is not supposed to be great on rear projection; and (3) there is a bit of pixelation (however that is spelled...) on faster, more colorful scenes. If you can live with those once in awhile, the TV is more than worth it given the priceThe HD picture is great. I have watched several football and basketball games, and it looks simply amazing. It also looks great for movies, and while the black levels aren't great, they are good. The TV's sound is quite good, too. Am I an expert? No. But I've been watching HDTV for over 3 years on a 30" TV, and this 46" model looks simply amazing.

WOW!!! i bought this tv 3 weeks ago and have had no problems with it. I game with this tv with my ps3 at 1080p and it is just a speachless picture. I would recomend this tv to any one who is looking for a big full hd tv for this price. No problems at all, even pick up digital channels withought a digital cable box!!

5Best television in price range
By Michael Kent
I have had this television for about 3 months. It used mainly for watching movies but the kids like watching cartoons on it also and even the regular cable doesn't look that bad. I own a Toshiba HD A-30 HD DVD player that is capable of sending a 1080p/24 signal which this tv is capable of displaying. The picture is perfect. I have not needed to tweak any of the settings for colors. The only settings I change are on my HD player depending on if the movie is HD or standard DVD. The viewing angle is fine. Some people freak out cause you can't see the picture if you are sitting at a 179 degree angle from the tv, but who does that? That spec is useless to use to determine how good a tv is if you are not realistically going to be viewing from that angle. All in all it is a great tv for the price. The other Bravia series which are $1000 more for the same size are not worth it in my opinion.

5Almost perfect
By K. Hecker
I purchased the Olevia 537h LCD flat panel TV for my mother, as she entered an assisted living community. I wanted her to have the best picture quality. She loves baseball, and has fairly good eyesight.I had spent some time looking at the Olevia 537h, but had only seen it showing a poor quality documentary. Still, I could see that the picture was excellent. When I installed my unit (which by the way was delivered sooner than expected, and in perfect condition), and first played a DVD, I was more than satisfied with the results (the Platinum edition of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was almost too good. You could see the artists' every brush stroke). The DVD player was one which Up-converted to HD 1080i quality, and the Olevia was up to the task. The picture was sharp, and the color was pure.As has been stated, the on-screen display menu system Syntax is so proud of takes some getting used to, and I had to print out the manual from disc to have a reference in front of me. Some things are still not clear (manual-wise, that is) I almost have it fully programmed, but will probably have to find a simpler remote for my mother's use. I'm using it with an HD antenna, but will probably have to arrange for cable input, as some local stations just don't come in well. This I know is not the fault of the unit.Overall it is a gem. The picture looks great in even bright room light. No glare from the screen. The colors are pure. And the price from Amazon is the best I had found.

5A great product at a great price
By Mark Davey
A great product got better. The 537H is the successor to the LT37HVS which was a great product with a heavy internet following because it provided a excellent picture at a very reasonable price. So how did Syntax top the LT37HVS well they kiazen`d(fixed) its few failings the SD picture, ATSC tuner and the remote while retaining the excellent picture and the great price point. The quality is fantastic, watching PBS's nature shows just shows off the picture. The ATSC tuner works great, I live in a rural area and many of our digital stations operate at low power but with a good indoor power antenna I picked up all the broadcast channels without problem. WKET transponder is a good 40 miles away and operates below 100W but came in with no dropouts.Where this television really separates it self from the other low end HD panels is the SD picture quality. Low end panels normally fail when it up converts an SD 480i signal, the cheap video processors usual included cannot process a decent looking SD picture which a real annoyance since the majority on content will be SD until we go all Digital in 2009 or later if you are using cable sources. The SD up conversion looks great, nearly as good as the up conversion at the local broadcasting stations.Pros:Great contrast ratio 1:1600Excellent colors, bright (though the darks took a little adjustment to get right)An ATSC tuner that works great.Lot's of different sources at the back.Nice stylingCons: (Silly small things)A little thick for a flat panel.Menu system takes a little getting used too.I personally believe that it will be hard to find a better 37" HD panel at this price point.

5SURPASSED ALL EXPECTATIONS!!!
By Steve
This is an incredible TV. Aside from some annoying minor problems like the fact that I can't program my cable box remote with this TV's codes to turn the set off and on or to change channels (the codes that Olevia says will work--won't) and selecting the source by rotating through ALL of the options (including the unused ones). Otherwise this is a truly stellar piece of electronics. Amazing picture, great sound, nicely designed...oh and did I mention great picture? The HD channels are so vivid as to look like a photograph. While channel surfing I hit Madagascar in HD and just stopped because the picture was awe inspiring. Bottom line, the price is extremely affordable. Xbox 360 games take on a whole new perspective on this TV.

1Unreliable product
By J
I understand the good reviews for this TV on here now. If I had posted this review a week ago, I would have written good things as well. However, it is currently 8 months after I got this TV, and it started having a burning smell yesterday. Then, while I was watching TV today the Screen went black, and nothing but a high pitched whine came from the speakers. After trying to find a fix for the problem online, I found that this model is notorious for this problem. It is extremely unreliable, and mine ended up lasting longer than most others have. The problem is costly to fix and will likely recur, so I strongly recommend finding a non-Sylvania brand TV to buy as this one is not only unusable after a short period of time, but a potential fire hazard from what I can tell from the smell it makes.

1Horrible TV
By Carol
HI! I bought this TV (from Kmart) hoping to watch the Super Bowl on it. I plugged it in Sat. night and about an hour later, got a huge headache from the burning smell coming from it. I thought it was burning dust and what not off the lights and it would be better Sunday. Turned it on again, 1/2 way through the Super Bowl, my son and I both had huge headaches from the smell of it. (I finished the Super Bowl on my analog TV).I decided to get online and see what was causing the burning smell. What I found was astonishing. This TV goes out within 5-12 months, you get horrible customer service from Sylvania and the TV is a discontinued model.I cannot get a headache every time I want to watch TV. Yes, the picture is great and the sound, too, but it's not worth a cent when it will die soon. I am not the only one smelling the burning smell, (except on these reviews). Please, if you want a lasting TV, don't buy a Sylvania brand. Go to reviews and see all the complaints from other people. People who have had the TV, for a month can't give a good review (unless it has a burning smell). Read the ones who have had it for 5 months or more. If you have bought your TV recently, good luck with it. I am returning mine tomorrow and will buy a Samsung or Sony, probably from Amazon.I hope this helps someone out on not getting stuck with a nasty TV. Google search this TV, read the consumer reviews and common complaints yourself. The best one was the family who bought 3. One went out within weeks, the other within 5 months and still waiting on the 3rd one to go out.

4Good Value For The Price
By Gerry W. Mosby
Pros: Picture looks great, sound is ok, programs really well, HDMI connection is a plus.Cons: Can't get Cox Cable remote to program to operate TV.I see other people have had problems w/ other systems trying to get remote to operate TV. After a call to Cox and one to Sylvania, and not getting anywhere, i did the following. I programed the Cox Box to only power the the AC outlet on the back of the box to only get power, when the cable box is on. That took care of the on/off of the TV. Next had the Cox Box control the TV volume through it and that took care of the volume. Now i don't need the TV remote to operate the TV. Hope this may help someone.

5Good Alternative to Large CRT Screen
By TT
While shopping for a large screen television, I had considered the 32" and 36" Sony WEGAs. However, this 43" Sony projection TV had key advantages over the CRT WEGAs.

KP-43 Advantages: Thinner (shallower depth) than the 36" WEGA; Lighter (about 100 lbs) than the 36" WEGA; and Larger screen viewing area (43" vs 36").

CRT Advantages: Wider viewing angle (both vertical and horizontal); and Shorter minimum viewing distance.

Although the KP-43 projection TV has a larger screen, it is lighter and can be moved more easily. It also is a good choice for apartments or other smaller living spaces.

If picture quality is critical to you, then you should be aware that you may lose detail in the shadows since the black levels do not seem to be reproduced as consistently or accurately as a professional monitors.

To calibrate your TV for your viewing environment, I recommend renting the "Video Essentials" DVD. In general, you may need to decrease the PICTURE (contrast), BRIGHTNESS, and SHARPNESS settings to achieve the best picture quality. With the factory settings, you may notice blooming and additional noise.

You may also notice all the noise from traditional cable and broadcast signals. Therefore, you may wish to subscribe to digital services. There is a single component video input on the TV, which may not be enough if you have digital cable and a DVD player. You may need a separate component video switcher to accommodate multiple component video sources, or you could sacrifice some picture quality and use S-Video connections instead.

5Excellent Choice
By Naim Hasan (naimh@mtrx.com)
I was recently in the market for a larger screen TV set. The 32 to 36 screen was going to be the perfect size given my family room deminsions. I was considering the Sony WEGA XBR, Toshiba, and Misubishi. Then one day as I walked through one of the retail stores in my area, I saw the Sony 43' Rear Projection Set. The compact size, the Larger Viewing Screen, Picture Quality, Enhance Digital Features and The Price, were very impressive. My search was over. It's been a week since the TV was delivered to my home and I can truly say that it has been a wonderful experience.

There are a couple of things to be aware of: * Getting all the components connected can take a little time.

* Limited space in the Stand for adding components.

Overall I think Sony 43' is a great investment if your considering 32 to 36" TV's. You'll get excellent picture quality at a better price point.

5This is a winner !!!
By markg@ujft.org (markg@ujft.org)
WoW! That's what I said when I saw them uncrating this TV on the retail floor. I had completed my purchase for a high end 36" tube tv. I went home that evening and called the salesperson to cancel the delivery. I went back to the store the next day and purchased this hot new Sony 43" projection tv. It is far less deep, weighs less, and is even .5" less wide than the 36" t.v. The sound is great. The picture is great, and it even has a pretty wide viewing angle.

4Sony KDL-70XBR7
By J. Pena
This is an actual review of this TV. Not sarcasm. I bought tv about a 1 1/2 ago for about $6,ooo from amazon. Shipping was quick and hassle free. If I would have had problems with set, which I didn't, amazon would have picked it up with no problems, as they did with other sets prior to finding this tv.I am impressed with television, it has a great picture and very sharp. Colors are right on and can be tweaked very easily if the need arose. Sound is poor but not a concern when hooked up to a decent surround sound system. Sony also has provided a premium in home service contract if needed. Overall I am happy with set. Of course as with all technology it will become out dated soon.

5Big TV at its best

true 1080p video with bells and whistles to make it usable. The sound is good (I never use it because it is part of the theater experience) the video and adjustment features terrific. I haven't found a problem with it yet.

1There are so many arguements AGAINST this TV.
By M. Gariti
First off, if you're just looking for a beautiful 70" 1080p TV, you can go with virtually any other brand, get full 480Hz 3D, and only spend $2500-$4500. Did I mention that this TV doesn't even have LED backlighting? All of those cheaper sets will, which provides a clearer picture and a 5-10x longer lifetime. Oh, and this one's not 3D, either. Secondly, if you ARE anxious to spend in the area of $20,000 to $30,000 for a TV, just wait 2 months for 4160p (4k) TVs to come out. 4k TVs are up to stadium sized (like a Jumbo-tron, up to 420"; but also room-size, 34"+) The picture is marvelous, and they provide 3D without 3D-glasses. (Once again, no 3D at all on this one).

By John Yezeguielian
I bought mine from Sam's Club (for the same price). I was able to look at this right next to a $1150 Samsung LED unit, and it was only 5-10% less impressive than that TV, except that this one is a LCD! Another great feature was that it has audio outputs. I'd purchased a lesser TV and returned it because the audio wouldn't sync up with the HDMI, so people's lips weren't in sync with the sound of their voice on my surround system. Having audio outs fixed that problem. I could brag on this TV for a while, but the most concise way of saying it is that I don't watch TV much, usually DVD and BluRay, a bit of HD Animal Planet maybe. Haven't justified spending money on a new TV before, but this one was simply too good a deal to pass on, too impressive a picture for the money ($649). When I researched it, they were going for over $1000 just a few months before. From the quality of both the sound and the pictures, I tend to think it was worth that price as well!Summary: Great deal, first-rate product at a discount price. No regrets!Follow-up: Hitachi has a Firmware update available for this TV. Go to [...] and you'll find the link for Downloads. Transfer the files from your hard drive to a USB media, and install to get to 2.1 rather than the 2.0x that it may have shipped with. Biggest changes I noticed are that it seems to be more prepared for digital TV channels... but also that some of the (mostly unwanted) digital foreign language channels aren't coming in anymore.

4A great deal
By Michael J.
This was Hitachi's new model June 2010. Sam's Club had it (special purchase) at $648. Maybe they still do. I grabbed it and could not be more pleased. I note none of the problems that were reported on previous version (L42S503).

5It's like having a 42 inch window on my coffee table!!
By Cynicalty
Bought the tv friday, got the hdmi cables saturday and it's absolutely amazing. Checked out a friend's brand new 50 inch 3d tv and mine is just as good!! Easy set up, beautiful bright picture, more hdmi inputs than I even need. Can't say enough good things about the tv. Plus, buy it at Sam's club, cheapest extra 2 year warranty around, 50 bucks!!
