5It's like I never watched TV before
By J. Rogers
I've had this TV for 5 days now. I've spent the majority of those days cruising around the HD Tier of my local cable company. As far as the picture goes, it is simply beautiful. I've done a massive amount of tinkering with the settings. Not because I can't find the combination that I like, but because I just felt like playing around with it and comparing the different configurations. Do yourself a favor and make sure the first thing that you do is change the mode from "Vivid" to something else. "Vivid" is the factory default and most likely set that way to boost the attraction level for the showroom.I started out by just using the calibration settings from http://www.plasmatvbuyingguide.com for the TH-50PX60U:Picture Mode StandardPicture +22Brightness +8Color -1Tint -4Sharpness -14Color Temperature WarmThese gave the picture a warmer, more realistic feel right off the bat. Skin tones were much more realistic after calibrating to these settings. The TH-50PX75U is, for all intents and purposes, the same TV as the TH-50PX60U from last year with the former having a few more features.I also decided to play around with the "Custom" mode and use the above settings as starting points. I decided to stick with the above settings for the time being as I find them most pleasing to the eye. Overall, the black levels look very good showing detail in the dark areas as well and the color is vivid. The picture looks very crisp and you get that "realism" factor that I have really only felt while researching plasmas and LCDs. Other technologies of HDTVs have not given me that "realism" feel.I've found that it is possible to notice the differences between the various cable channels and the HD that they utilize. For instance, I was watching one of the NBA Conference Finals games on TNTHD and also flipping to a baseball game being broadcast on ESPNHD. TNTHD broadcasts in 1080i while ESPNHD broadcasts in 720p. I noticed that the ESPNHD baseball game was actually a tad more crisp and vibrant than the TNTHD basketball game broadcast. However, I also noticed that the basketball game looked more crisp whenever the main camera that is used to pan the floor during the action was not used and the action cut away to another camera. I was amazed that I could see the difference between the cameras being used within the same broadcast. That being said, the game action was still more crisp than anything that I have ever seen on my old tube, non-HD set. I think that I may have been able to assist this by tinkering with the settings a bit but it was far from an issue as it still looked great. Also, while I flipped back and forth between the baseball and basketball games I also happened upon a live concert which looked even better than either the baseball or basketball game. The detail was just stunning. Also of note is the fact that you will notice that live events (sporting events, concerts) look much better in HD than a movie that is being broadcast in HD. The movies look very good and you won't be disappointed. I'm just trying to establish what to expect as a general rule.I spent some time comparing the standard definition broadcasts versus the HD broadcast of the same events. For instance, I flipped back and forth between the basketball game being broadcast on TNT between their standard definition digital signal and their HD channel. If all you've ever known is non-HD TV you will not believe that you ever had to watch an event in standard definition when you do the flip-comparison. The amount of detail that I was missing with my old TV was just incredible.I do not think that the standard definition channels are all that bad overall. Some better than others but for the most part it is slightly better than what I had been used to watching on my old TV. This, at least to me, is saying something being that this TV is 50" versus my old 27" non-HD TV. I was expecting the fuzziness of standard definition channels to be exaggerated because of being spread out over a much larger screen. I have also been using the "Just" aspect ratio when viewing standard definition channels which is like the "Full" aspect ratio except that it uses some sort of algorithm to make the center 1/3 of the picture appear without the appearance of being "stretched" and the outer 2/3 of the picture is stretched which seems to present a more normal presentation in lieu of being stretched. I am doing this simply as a precautionary measure during the first couple of hundred hours of viewing to guard against image retention (burn-in). I realize that the technology has come a long way in eliminating image retention but I would rather be cautious. There is no PIP with this unit. However, this is not an issue for me as my HD/DVR cable box has the PIP feature which works just fine for what I will use it for.I do not currently have a lot of peripherals and don't ever plan on having much more than I have now. I currently have my old DVD player (connected via component video), my XBox 360 (connected via component video) and my HD/DVR cable box (connected via HDMI). That leaves me with one more HDMI port and no more component video connections along with the composite and S-Video connections. I plan on getting an Upconverting DVD-Recorder that I will connect via the remaining HDMI connection thus freeing up one of my component video connections. Other than that I am looking into some sort of Home Theater In A Box (HTIB) that I will be connecting to the setup. I would have liked to have another HDMI connection for that purpose but I will manage. The built-in speakers are more than adequate for now and I really don't have any complaints about them. Not overwhelming but they are fine until I can get a HTIB.The pedestal stand that comes with the TV seems quite sturdy and was very simple to assemble and connect to the TV. Once on the stand the TV seems quite well balanced and it would take quite a shove for it to tip over. Panasonic also provides you with a couple of bands that you can use to screw into the TV itself and then to the stand that you place the TV on if you are not planning on wall-mounting the set to make it a little more stable. I prefer the stand/pedestal mounting personally. The TV is in a fairly well-lit room during the day and even though this particular model does not have the glare reducing shield that the next level up model has, I have not experienced any issues with glare. This was a concern for me but I have been pleasantly surprised. The black bezel/casing looks infinitely better to me than the TH-50PX60U's silver. It was a wise change by Panasonic for this year's model. The remote is simple yet very functional. I like the larger buttons and everything is easy to find. The menu system is sufficient although I still find myself exiting out of a sub-menu when I didn't want to from time to time. This is probably more a result of getting familiar with the menu system than anything else.Overall, I could not be happier with this HDTV thus far.

5Wow!
By G. Sumner
Everybody who has stepped into our new place and views this TV hanging from the wall says the same thing... "Wow!!!" The next few minutes are stunned silence as they sit down and become mesmerized by the picture. This TV has amazing colors, and is plenty bright in a brightly lit room. In fact, we had to turn the brightness down a couple of notches.I'm not a techno geek so I can't tell you how many plugs of this type or that are on the thing. I can only tell you it was more than enough for our PVR & DVD/VCR to be connected and there are many more open jacks for other stuff. We have had this TV for 2 months, trouble free and know at least 2 friends that are saving their pennies to purchase their own. Only time will tell us how good this TV really is but I can promise you once you have watched this TV for a while, you will compare all other TV's to it.p.s. For those who are wondering, a standard 4:3 TV size picture on this screen (maintain the same aspect ratio) is about 42" when measured diagonally. I was always wondering about that and figured other people might too.**** Update ****We've had this unit for 6 months with ZERO problems and the "wow factor" lives on. Watching widescreen movies & sports broadcasts on other TV's is simply not the same after having this set in our livingroom. We're now known as "TV snobs"... thanks Panasonic!!!

5One of the Best for the Money
By The Great Oz
You might find TVs with marginally better picture quality, but not in this price range. This TV has stunning styling and an even better picture. Menus are easy to navigate and setup is a cinch. I would recommend that the picture setting be changed from the factory default "Vivid" to "Standard". The Vivid setting enhances brightness and contrast. Standard setting will result in better detail and less susceptibility to burn-in, particularly in the first 200 hours of use. Plasma burn-in with quality TVs such as this is no more of a problem than burn-in with CRTs because of advancements in anti-burn-in technologies such as rotating pixels (check Panasonic's website for more detail).

Panasonic VIERA TC-P60GT30 60-Inch 1080p 120 Hz 3D Plasma HDTV

Product Description

Sixty inches of beautiful screen - that's what Panasonic's TC-P60GT30 has going for it. With its appealing combination of performance and value, it's a great way to enjoy a theater-like viewing experience at home. Connect a 3D Blu-ray player, don a pair of 3D glasses, and watch as the movie action bursts through the boundaries of your screen. Since 3D content is still scarce, you can use this set's 2D-to-3D conversion feature to add a nice sense of depth to 2D programs. Even standard 2D video viewed without glasses looks stunningly beautiful.

5Best 50" picture quality in the U.S.
By Andon M. Coleman
With SONY and JVC no longer manufacturing their phenomenal high-end CRT HDTVs, and Pioneer out of the Plasma business, the pursuit of picture quality is not as simple as it once was. Rest assured, however, that there are still a handful of manufacturers (i.e. Panasonic, Samsung, LG, ...) still investing in Plasma technology, because LCD is a giant leap backwards in terms of picture quality. When Pioneer - the previous undisputed leader in picture quality - left the industry, they sold their Plasma technology to Panasonic. While the amount of Pioneer technology (if any) present in Panasonic's current line-up is a matter of debate, most critics will agree that Panasonic currently holds the crown for picture quality.Viera Size Segmentation (VT30 vs. GT30 vs. ST30)------------------------------------------------I was in the market for a VT30 this year... however, in the United States, Panasonic's size options are quite restrictive. In Europe, all lines of plasma from the X up to VT are available in 42", which is the perfect size for me.In the United States, each of the 3D model lines has a different starting size: VT30: 55" - 65" (Industry leading black level, less buzzing, better speakers, 96 Hz mode for 24p, ISF calibration, ...) GT30: 50" - 65" (Better black level, +1 HDMI port and VGA input, THX certified) ST30: 42" - 65" (Entry-level 3D TV) S30: 42" - 60" (1080p 2D plasma, worse motion clarity than ST30 and no 3D support) X3: 42" - 50" (720p 2D plasma)Unfortunately, I can barely fit a 50" TV where I have my GT30. I made the conscious choice of buying a TV slightly larger than I would have liked, because the GT30 buys you THX mode (which does a _really_ good job with skintones), an extra HDMI port, and a slightly lower black level than the ST30.Picture Quality---------------Getting back to picture quality, I have a SONY Super Fine Pitch FD Trinitron (CRT) set in my bedroom that I use as a benchmark for image quality. The GT30 does not have the pure black level or white performance of the CRT (or even many local dimming LCDs). However, color accuracy and black gradiation (i.e. being able to see fine details in shadowed scenes) are actually better than my calibrated CRT.Unenhanced motion clarity is indistinguishable between the two sets, and the GT30 earns a lot in this respect when it comes to displaying 24 fps material (48 Hz mode causes flickering, but even with simple 3:2 pull-down, the TV displays 24p video well).Panasonic has added a more advanced Motion Smoother this year, with two levels - it creates artificial motion enhancement similar to LCD 120/240 Hz, and therefore has limited appeal.Physical Appearance-------------------Typically I do not care about the physical appearance of a television (which is why I still prefer high-end CRTs to flat panels), but the design of this TV is definitely worth mentioning... compared to last year's GT25 model, this TV is lightyears ahead. The bezel has been shrunken on all sides of the panel, and the depth is equally impressive. Were it not for the speakers, and clunky stand, this TV would be about an inch deep. As a result, the television requires "break out" cables to attach analog audio/video devices, and the total number of analog inputs has been reduced to 3 (Component, Composite and VGA D-Sub). This does not bother me at all, since the only analog device I have connected to any of my TVs is a Nintendo Wii. The extra HDMI port more than makes up for it.I would also like to give kudos to Panasonic for putting the power button on the FRONT of the TV this year (it was on the side last year).Long-term Value (Viera Connect)-------------------------------Viera Connect is a promising new feature for 2011, that is essentially an evolution of Viera Cast.Consumers can look forward to a growing software base in the future (as Software Engineers like myself develop software for the new open platform). The beauty of this new platform is that it operates independantly of official firmware release schedules. This is important, because firmware updates for aging products are few and far between - 2010 and older Viera models will likely NEVER receive support for Hulu, etc...With this TV, two or three years from now, consumers can still download new or updated Viera Connect applications from the Viera Connect marketplace. Another thing I found nice about Viera Connect's marketplace, is that you can buy TV accessories (such as 3D glasses, SD cards, etc...) directly from software built-in to the TV, and rest assured that the product is compatible with your particular model.Sound-----Sound quality leaves room for improvement. This being the second-to-highest model from Panasonic, lacks the sub-woofer and higher quality speakers found on the VT line.Adding insult to injury, US Viera televisions do not have analog audio out, so to improve the audio quality you must connect them to an A/V receiver (which also draws a lot of power) that supports optical S/PDIF.In future years, I hope that Panasonic will consider improving the sound quality on the GT line.Power Consumption-----------------Power consumption is good, but definitely not great. This is the only performance measurement that local dimming LED backlight LCDs come out on top in. That said, Panasonic has redesigned the construction of their panels this year, to improve phosphor response time (reduces 3D cross-talk), and improve luminous efficiency. Remember that this TV uses tinted 3D glasses, which darkens the picture... so brightness is important in 3D.As a result, brightness is up, and power consumption is down vs. last year's model. Unfortunately, one consequence of the new design is "fluctuating brightness," which occurs when the TV transitions from a bright scene to a dark scene - in extreme cases, it can take the TV multiple frames to recognize the change in brightness and adjust its image processing. This was irritating at first, but I hardly notice it anymore.Plasma Buzz-----------On a final note, I have noticed a lot of people complaining about plasma buzz. I feel obligated to point out that the buzz is especially bad within the first 100-200 hours of operation, and decreases somewhat over time. There are a number of factors that play into the buzzing, including altitude, viewing distance and picture settings. Granted operating altitude is not easy to change, but the buzzing can be reduced by sitting farther from the TV set, and dialing down the contrast setting (buzzing is directly related to how bright an image is).A lot of people have TVs too large for their viewing distance and have contrast set way too high, and only ever realize it when plasma buzzing or dithering becomes a nusiance.Pros and Cons------------------Pros:----- Plasma image quality * Pure black level is not as good as CRT or local dimming LCD, but... images with light and dark areas really shine --> No blooming between nearby light and dark areas (LCD) --> No image geometry warping related to brightness (CRT) * Excellent motion clarity without artificial techniques like 120/240 Hz THX mode * Accurate skintones * Almost no picture setting tweaks required to get exceptionally good image quality Consistent black level * Panasonic claims that the black level will not rise after 1000+ hours of operation with 2011 models, due to manufacturing changes. Power consumption vs. Screen brightness SIGNIFICANTLY improved over 2010 models * In fact, it is so good that the 50" GT30 actually qualifies for Energy Star 4.0 Viera Connect * New in 2011, free/paid applications can be downloaded through the TV and the selection of applications will grow over time.-----Cons:----- Viera model lines segmented by size in the US * Could mean buying a TV that is too large Average speaker quality on ST30/GT30 * US Viera models do not have analog audio out --> Requires a dedicated power-hungry A/V receiver to improve on TV's speakers... Power consumption * Improved in 2011, but still nowhere near local dimming LCD performance Fluctuating brightness * Movie enthusiasts may find the delay in bright image processing frustrating... --> I have found the issue has almost no negative impact on gaming performance, or general TV viewing. Netflix Performance * Given the state of the Netflix app on Viera Connect as of June 2011, audio noticably stutters... --> Mitigated by the fact that Viera Connect will allow users to download an updated version of the Netflix app whenever the bug is fixed.Calibration-----------For those who are interested, I have had my GT30 professionally calibrated in THX mode.If you do not want to shell out $300+ to schedule a calibration on your set, but still want the best picture quality possible, the most important thing you can do is dial the color setting down to around 45. The default THX settings over saturate colors, and if you become used to the over saturated colors, you will never appreciate the advantages of a properly calibrated THX mode. Also, do not use C.A.T.S.! If you have a viewing environment that has varying levels of external light, you would be much better off maintaining two sets of picture settings. In my case, between night and day, all I need to do is adjust my contrast from 60 to 45. C.A.T.S. can detect differences in brightness, but it messes with more than just the white level. You may be tempted to set the Black Level setting in "Advanced picture" properties to dark because it looks more natural, but this causes black crushing (loss of detail in dark video). Try to learn to live with lighter blacks (this can be especially difficult if you are used to high-end CRTs) and you will begin to appreciate the amazing black performance of Plasma technology.

5Unbelievable Picture
By C. Wilson
The picture quality this TV puts out is crazy good. Colors are bright and vibrant without being over saturated and unrealistic. Blacks are inky black, and shadow detail is great as well. One of the reasons I bought the GT30 over the ST30 is the THX mode which gives really good out of the box picture without any aftermarket calibration. If you're into tweaking the picture though, there are two professional picture modes that allow very in depth picture controls.1080P Source Material with a high bitrate (such as blurays or Vudu HDX) look incredibly sharp and stunning, while not looking sharp to the point of unrealism as some LCD's look. 720P sources look very good as well if a bit softer. 480i/p sources look alright. I only spent a few minutes watching SD and the experience was unexpectedly unimpressive. Motion on the GT30 looks very smooth and realistic without displaying the terrible "soap opera effect" that 120/240Hz LCD's seem to suffer from.I tried using the Viera Cast software that Panasonic builds into these Tv's and I found to be pretty laggy. It wasn't very responsive and I found the design to be a little on the ugly side. Vizio and Samsung have much more polished media platforms built into their Tvs. It's possible Panasonic will improve performance with firmware updates in the future. If I was planning on using Viera Cast I would mark my score down but I have a Media Center PC and PS3 that replace all the functionality Viera Cast offers.3D performance is very good. So far I've watched Tron Legacy on 3D bluray and played some 3D PS3 games; the 3D picture is very immersive and THX color accuracy remains very good in 3D mode. I've had bad experiences with 3D crosstalk on a friend's Samsung C7000 LCD and it can get very annoying and distracting. Thankfully I haven't experienced any of that on the GT30 in a dark or light viewing environments.I've heard some early reports of the GT30 exhibiting floating blacks when viewing material that changes from a darker to a lighter scene suddenly. I haven't experienced any of this. I watched Black Swan on bluray to test this and black levels remained dark and consistent throughout with no slight jumps in brightness.I'm also very impressed with the design of the GT30. It's about as thin as my Motorola Droid and it looks stunning mounted on my wall. Panasonic has traditionally lagged behind the likes of Sony and Samsung when it comes to the design of their Tv's but they really stepped up their game with the GT30. Having a TV that looks almost as stunning when turned off as it does when turned on is an unexpected plus.Overall the GT30 is an incredible TV that makes no compromises when it comes to picture quality. If you want to spend more money, the VT30 it will probably improve upon the GT30 in some way when it's released but I'm having a hard time coming up with things they could improve outside of their Viera Cast platform.

5Fluctuating brightness no longer a problem; great for games
By E. J. Paul
Admittedly, I was hesitant to purchase this TV because of the mixed reviews. Many people here (and on various forums and review sites) complained of distracting brightness fluctuations that significantly detracted from the viewing experience. I decided to just go with it and I must say I don't regret my purchase at all.First, yes, the brightness fluctuations were distracting. Notice the past-tense "were" there; as in, the fluctuations are no longer distracting because they are no longer a problem. For North America, Panasonic has acknowledged and addressed the fluctuations. For sets manufactured prior to August 2011 a repair is available in the form of an SD card software update or a very simple hardware replacement (pre-updated hardware for non-Panasonic repair techs as an alternative to updating the software with an SD card). So, don't let the looming shadow of brightness fluctuations deter you from this TV--if you get a set and it is a problem, call Panasonic and they'll fix it. On the other hand, you may not even notice them at all. So again, don't let it hold you back.I discovered this TV while looking for an affordable way to pick up a quality 3D HDTV, mostly for gaming. 3D performance is very good. Many have claimed this TV is crosstalk free (crosstalk is the phenomenon where the image intended for only one eye bleeds a bit into the wrong eye causing a double-image effect), but it simply is not; however, the crosstalk is generally not very noticeable in movies and games and in the case of games you can usually adjust the strength of the 3D effect to somewhat mitigate the crosstalk. For anyone wondering if plasma tech is ok for games the answer is yes, it is fine. Some people recommend about 100 hours of "break in" before leaving any static images on the screen. I don't know if this is technically necessary but there's nothing wrong with being cautious and conservative...100 hours really isn't much time for a TV at all. Some with a critical eye may occasionally notice image retention, but it is temporary. Just be mindful about leaving static images on the screen for long periods of time (for example, don't leave a game paused for several hours...just turn off your TV if you won't be using it, you'll save electricity). Many games have health bars, maps, or other fixed images on the screen, but in my experience these don't cause long-term problems: first, the TV will imperceptibly shift pixels around to keep them changing; second, most games have cutscenes, pauses, and transitions that change up the picture frequently enough that it won't really matter. Again, just be mindful and you shouldn't have any problems. This set replaced a Sony XBR LCD from 2008 and so far (2 months of ownership) I don't miss LCDs at all. Frankly, at this screen size LED backlit 3D capable LCDs are just too cost prohibitive in my opinion. Yes the power consumption is higher than an LED lit LCD so the long-term cost of ownership is higher in that respect, but I haven't noticed any difference in my electricity bill compared to my CCFL lit LCD; so, if you're coming from an older LCD the power consumption probably won't be a lot different.

5Well balanced and well worth it
By S. Phibber McGee
I did considerable research before buying this TV. I had a wish list of features that the wife and I had come up with plus constraints on my budget and the physical size of the TV due to existing space within our entertainment center which was of the pre wide screen era. While we had to compromise on several of our wish list features ( Internet connectivity to access things like Pandora most notably) the items we did not get seemed to be pretty much standard across the 32" size selection and apparently only available in the region of 42" and above.I had occasion to visit LG's website to attempt to determine info that was not shown in the Amazon description and was very pleased with the support LG offers even in just looking at their TV pre-buy. I had a real time chat with one of their CSRs who was able to get me the info I was looking for immediately and make several alternate suggestions. The longest portion of my set up time was assembling the base and attaching it to the TV. The instructions are extremely clear and set up is a snap.We were initially somewhat dismayed at the sound quality and its apparent loudness as we are not using a surround sound system with it as yet. However after a little exploring of the extensive set up menus I located some sound configuration selections and by changing several of those made a huge improvement in the sound quality. The fact that in order to locate these setting I had to spend a great deal of time exploring and fumbling around as opposed to them being part of the set up wizard that you run the first time out is the reason for my 1 star deduction off the Ease of Set Up category. Our seating arrangement is ideally spaced for a 32" TV and the picture is extremely clear sharp and bright at the recommended distance. We love the auto brightening and dimming feature of the display to match ambient room light. A minor note about this is that the sensor used to monitor the ambient room light is extremely sensitive to the point where a scented tea light votive candle burning more than 15 feet way from the TV and behind the viewing area was driving it nuts attempting to read and compensate for the room lighting until we moved it.In terms of "bang for the buck" and quality we are so pleased with this TV we are strongly considering getting a second one for our home office to do double duty as TV and computer monitor.

4Great TV, but first one had defective sound
By styro
We have a 60" LG plasma in our den, which we love, so when I needed a smaller TV for the home gym, I bought this 32" model. It's got a great picture and it's easy to set up, and with a Roku it was cheaper than similar "internet TVs" that come with the streaming stuff (netflix, hulu, etc) built-in. So for the price and the quality, it was just what we wanted. However, after about 20 minutes of being on, the sound would fizzle once and then intermittently cut out. It was almost like a feedback loop, once it started, the sound would cut out faster and faster until it just stopped working altogether. At first we thought it was the Roku, so we exchanged the Roku box for a new one, but it was still happening, and we tried a jump drive, and some other ideas, but eventually realized that it was the TV sound cutting out. We returned the TV for an exact replacement and have been very happy. But if yours does the weird sound cutting out thing, exchange it for a replacement!

4Our first flat-screen TV
By G. Speer
This is our first flat-screen TV, and we bought it because LG was recommended to us by a young man in a Big Box Store who seemed knowledgeable after we'd asked him about 20 minutes of specific questions. This particular model seemed to have the best combination of features and price we could afford. We've been quite pleased with it. The setup was very easy (once our son came by and helped us move out the gigantic, heavy old-fashioned RCA set we were replacing) and it did well out of the box. Once we upgraded our Dishnetwork setup to HD and hooked it up, the picture quality both in HD and SD (it's fun learning all this new video lingo) seems excellent. The only complaint we would have is that the sound system seems noticeably lower in volume than we would like when we're playing anything on the DVD, DVR or Roku systems. I don't hear any distortion, it just requires turning up louder than I would prefer in order to get adequate volume.Overall, we're quite pleased with the set and especially at the excellent price we got on it through Amazon.

5Every bit as good as I expected
By Jamie
This review is a little long winded. Skip to the bottom for just the pros and cons. Or, keep reading to waste 10 minutes of your life.Over the last 5 years, I have been using a 58" Panasonic Plasma TV. Not a bad TV, but not the greatest either. It was only 1080i, it got hot pretty fast (which made the room hot and the air condition kick on too often), and the dimensions were weird (I looked at entertainment centers that should fit a 60" TV, but the TV still wouldn't fit.). I felt an upgrade was in order.I'll have to admit, shopping for a TV was pretty fun. A lot of work though. The research was overwhelming at times. Websites upon websites, magazines, books, different people's inputs, salesmen trying to sell you different things depending on which store you went to, etc. I narrowed it down to one of many Sony HDTVs or a Samsung C or D series. After narrowing it down to those 2 brands, it was a little easier. I went to about 4 different Fry's Electronics and 7 different Best Buys to check it out in different situations. After that, it came down to the UN55D8000 (boy, did I memorize those numbers). To make the decision easier, I was looking on Amazon, and to my amazement, they had it for $500 less that everyone else, plus free shipping. Score! With the free shipping, it usually takes a little longer. I would say, from the time the order was placed, until it got to my front door, it took about 1.5 weeks. It came delivered from Home Direct, USA and had no issues with delivery. They were going to set up the TV, but I told them not to, since my entertainment center hadn't come in yet. I opened up the box, put the TV on a soft cloth (our bed's comforter) and installed the stand. Eight screws, piece of cake. I connected the Directv receiver and a PS3. There are a few settings you will set in the beginning when the TV turns on. Takes about 2 minutes, literally. After that, the fun begins! Going from 1080i to 1080p is a huge difference! I had a recording of Chuck on the DVR and it almost looked live. I also watched some regular satellite programming and even the non-HD channels looked amazing. After wiping the drool off the floor, I wanted to check out the 3D part of the TV. I popped in the free copy of Shrek the 3rd in the PS3, put on the glasses and waited to be amazed. Aside from the amazing colors, it looked exactly like 2D! WTH?! Then, I remember reading somewhere that the PS3 does indeed play 3D movies, BUT with an upgrade. I waited about 30 minutes for the upgrade to finish. After that, loaded up the dvd again, and there was the movie with that funky 3D image. Hey wait, I have 3D glasses on, how come I see that. Oh, oops. Batteries need to be installed in the glasses. Finally! The 3D image was awesome! Seriously, watching TV in 3D is amazing. I can't wait `til there's more media in 3D. As it stands right now, the only real movies in 3D are either documentaries or cartoons, with the exception of a few regular movies (i.e. Resident Evil, Step Up 3, etc.)I just set it up last night, so I can't give you a whole lot more information. But, even if I did have more time, I don't think I can give you the detailed specs that you might be looking for. I'm not an expert on home theater. Here's an overview of pros and cons:PROS:* The lack of a bigger bezel really does make a difference. Not only aesthetically, but in terms of functionality, too (better 3D viewing. It looks like you're looking thru a window.).* Images are spectacular. Whether it be regular programming, HDTV programming, or Blu-Ray.* Price on Amazon was very good!* Delivery was pain-free.* A lot of settings options, so you can set up the TV to your preference and the viewing scenario (i.e. movie, standard, etc.)* 3D movie watching is stunning! I just wish Panasonic didn't have exclusive rights on Avatar.CONS:* SmartTV is a cool feature. But, not a necessity. I really doubt that I'll Facebook or Tweet from the TV.* Audio isn't great, but it's adequate. I wasn't really expecting much from a flat screen TV.* Did not come with the touch-screen remote as was supposed to be the case in the beginning of the year.* Have to mail in the vouchers (or register online) in order to get the 3D glasses. True, you do get a 3D starter kit with this TV, which has the glasses, but those glasses are a little different and use batteries. Also, you have to send out to get the free copy of Shrek Forever and Megamind. I really shouldn't complain, though, since these are free.* Needs a more detailed manual on how to use most of the features. The manual it comes with is thick, but it's just because it's the same thing in different languages.Sorry for the long review. Us Yelpers write a lot of gibberish, don't we?UPDATE: After playing around with the TV a little more this weekend, I noticed that the top of the screen had some light flickering (around where the bezel meets the screen and it was about 1/16" tall and went almost across the whole TV. I'm hoping it's not the "edge lighting.") It only did this on some channels on Directv. Most channels were fine and Blu-Ray was fine. I'm thinking it's either the receiver or possibly the cheap HDMI cable. I have a Monster M1000 series cable coming in later this week, so I'll switch it out and update. Also, there has been talk all over online about people having problems pairing the remote. I had zero problem and did it about 5 feet away from the TV.One last thing, one of the glasses in the free 3D kit didn't seem to work. I changed out batteries and nothing. Then, the next morning, I tried it again, but this time turning off the bluetooth in my phone, and it worked. Whether this had an effect on it, I don't know. But, just thought I'd throw that out there.BTW, this weekend, I watched Tangled in 3D and played MLB2K11 on the PS3...... WOW! I'll have to admit, I liked 3D, but I thought it was just a novelty. No way. 3D is much different now than when we had those blue and red glasses. It changes the whole experience.UPDATE #2: Didn't have to do anything to get the line gone. It just went away one day. Also, I finally got the 3D glasses from the voucher that's in the TV. Unfortunately, they are the 3300s and not the 3700s that I kept seeing from people at CES. I won't knock the rating down, but I am a little disappointed that the glasses and the remote that were advertised earlier in the year didn't come with the unit, nor even thru mail. Also, the charger for the glasses is $199! No, thanks. I'll just charge it using the USB cable.

3It was a great TV until notice the screen uniformity issue
By Josetron
I have been playing with this TV for one week, the image a color accuracy was great until I notice there is a white halo in the left and right side of the TV. After reading other users and expert reviews, seems like the screen uniformity problem is persistent.I chat with Samsung representative and this is what they told me: Please wait for a Samsung Agent to respond. You are now chatting with 'Dennis'. There will be a brief survey at the end of our chat to share feedback on my performance today. Your Issue ID for this chat is LTK4380954317XDennis: Hi, thanks for reaching out to Samsung tech support. How can I help you today?Visitor: Yes I bought a UN55D8000 TV,Dennis: Okay.Visitor: have a problem with the image, there is a white halo when watching dark scenesDennis: Where is this located on the screen?Visitor: left side (more intense) and right side (less intense), middle (center) looks fineDennis: Is it on the corners that you can notice this?Visitor: no, more like a vertical line from top to bottomVisitor: but is not exactly a line, it's a haloDennis: Please set the TV to Standard or Movie picture mode and lower the backlight to 7.Dennis: Use the TV with this setting for 3 weeks.Dennis: This should go away.Visitor: tell me more why?Dennis: This occurs when the LED screen emits more light.Visitor: are the LED supposed to emit less light after three weeks?Dennis: Using the TV with these settings will eliminate the excess light.Visitor: yes, but it doesn't look good since doesn't have enough lightDennis: Please change the settings and try this for at least 2 weeks.Visitor: can't understand why 2-3 weeks? what happen after? can I go back and use whatever setting I want?Dennis: Yes, you can change the settings after two to three weeks.Visitor: Ok, just to let you know, I will post this in Amazon ratings, if this is not a fix I will say so... Samsung doesn't say this to customer when sell the TV and this seems to be a problem with the design of the TV itself...Dennis: These are the troubleshooting steps that we can try for this issue.Dennis: We are not suggesting you to use the TV with these settings for ever.Visitor: Ok, I will try...thanks.I will try and let you know, although I'm considering returning it given this is a very pricey TV...UPDATE: Here is an update on the troubleshooting suggested by Samsung on screen uniformity...I don't see material improvement using the setting that Samsung's representative suggested, and honestly don't think it will make any difference (or at least I do not understand why would be better just changing the setting temporarily). I could wait another week but don't have more time to wait before having my window to return... so I have finally decided to return it since the white halo doesn't go away and this TV is just too expensive to have this type of problem... if this TV would be $1500 or less, I would keep it for sure.To be very balance in my review, still think the colors are great and the exterior design of the TV is the best I have ever seen, but it seems like this great exterior design is the one creating the screen uniformity due to the thin bezel...I have also notice two additional minor issues with this TV, motion blur issues on fast pace scenes and the remote control range which is relatively short (8 feet or so).So I'm switching to a recently announced Samsung PND8000 which is supposed to be top rated plasma... same interface and remote control than the UND8000, I will write a review once I get the chance to play with it...

5Not quite ready for prime time, in some respects
By P. Kalina
I wanted to give this TV a glowing review; after all, it has some of the latest LED technology, and the style is trend setting. After a week with this TV, I am less than satisfied with the 'Samsung Experience'. Let me get this off my chest first. Did you ever go to an event, like a county fair, early, when not all the rides and attractions were open? You're excited because it looks like it can be a lot of fun, but it's just a bit too early for the full experience. Well, that's the way I feel about this TV. First of all, the 3d glasses that are supposed to ship with this TV were not in the box. Instead, there is a voucher you may mail in, or go online to order (which I did). After a week and no response, I called to find out why the delay. I was told to read the voucher's fine print, which said there was a 10-12 week wait for the glasses. Not good. Secondly, I found an issue with the remote control unit, which is not a fun thing to have in your hand. It is sort of short and stubby, with two sides. One side has a QWERTY keyboard for text entry, and a touch-sensitive pointer. I find that the up, down, right, left controls do not work correctly with my unit, and called support to report this. They seemed very interested in the matter and told me they would call back in 45 minutes (after they set up a testing unit) for further info. There was no call back. Another reviewer mentioned the difficulty in pairing the remote with the TV, via Bluetooth. I also found this to be a problem and not consistently easy to do.Samsung has incorporated a feature called Smart Hub into their 'Smart TV'. This is a portal that has Netflix, Vimeo, YouTube, Facebook, Pandora, a web browser, and several games and applications that are either free or paid for. The feature is nice and I look forward to seeing it develop. You need to register your TV and create an account, similar to an Apple ID, before you can purchase any of the apps. You would think you could do this from the TV, but you can't; you need to go online to do this. Not a big deal, but it was confusing. The Samsung website is not ready for prime time either. The discussion board is not yet running. One nice thing is the Live Help, which works VERY well. However, I was not able to get the level of help I needed.Okay, enough with the gripes. This is one fine TV. It is very light, has a narrow profile and includes a nice, chrome-plated stand that lets you to rotate the TV about 30 degrees in either direction. A big factor for me was the thin bezel, which allowed me to fit a 46" set into my 43" wide cabinet. The TV has plenty of inputs, including some strange connectors that let you to connect component and composite video. I do have a non-HDMI DVD that uses the component connectors, and it worked well. The setup of the TV is not difficult if you have some experience with hookups, and I was able to get all the components and my receiver working in short order. As I mentioned above, I am not a big fan of the shape of the remote, and I am trying to duplicate most of the functionality in my Harmony universal remote. One thing I did was hook up my TV to my iMac to show photos to my photo club. I was not expecting the quality to be better than my 27" iMac, but it was FAR better. The color was most natural in Movie mode, Warm 1 setting. The sharpness was uncanny. I saw no obtrusive artifacts on the screen and was pleased as punch at the jaw-dropping quality of my photo images (and so were the club members). The TV is connected to our UVERSE system, and the HD quality is very good. I have no measurement or calibration tools, but I have a fine eye for photography. The color balance, contrast, and sharpness are excellent. The only thing I need to get a handle on is the 'Film mode', which can turn watching Modern Family into a strange experience; it almost makes some programs look like they were videotaped like a soap opera. I leave this feature 'off' for the time being. Tonite we watched the 10 Commandments (1956), and the quality was incredible! I have yet to see any Blue Ray DVDs, as I haven't purchased a player yet. And, of course, I don't have the glasses for 3D. I do plan to update my review as these things change. This TV merits at least a 4-star rating. I may add another depending on how things develop.Update 6/8/2011Finally received my 3d glasses from the 'Samsung Fulfillment Center'. They are active-shutter type glasses and come with standard USB cords to charge them. You can plug the cords into the back of the set and the glasses will recharge when the set is ON. We watched our first 3D movie together last night. The 3d effect was excellent and I could see no artifacts. The glasses fit over my lenses and were comfortable. They turn on automatically when they sense a 3d broadcast, which is nice. The chunky remote usually just sits waiting to be used, as I have programmed a Harmony Universal remote to allow me to use SmartHub and control most of the functions. SmartHub is still evolving and there are many update messages that indicate it is constantly upgraded. I do enjoy the Vimeo and Vudu sites, as well as Netflix. The gamed, browser and other 'apps' are not appealing to me yet.I continue to laud the picture quality on this set. I can't say it is better than a Sony or Panasonic or other brand, but I have no reason to look further. I can only describe the HD quality as 'rich' and brimming with tonality. The shadow detail amazes me, and the blacks are truly black. I never find the the picture to be overly contrasty or saturated. I also find no reason to fiddle with the controls, once they are set. After over a month of viewing, I still find myself saying 'that's remarkable' when I watch high quality broadcasts. Again, I use ATT Uverse as my cable provider, and our signal quality is very good. I don't expect to buy another TV of this caliber for a good long time, and feel confident that this Samsung will grow with us for years to come.Update 11/18/11After months of use, I still like this TV. Samsung, it appears, is trying to be like Apple and even sent me a survey ploying me with questions about why I liked Apple computers, iPads, iPods, etc. I can see they are trying to formulate a strategy. Let me say that SmartHub is their way of giving TV users an 'app' experience. It has fallen short IMHO. The apps they have are rather cheesy and I'd rather use an iPad while watching TV, than switch to Smarthub and turn off the programming. Another failing, they don't give you access to Amazon streaming for movies (they used to, but not in the 2011 TVs). Why? AppleTV is a good accessory for Netflix, Youtube, and many other features and it has a far better interface. The only thing I like about SmartHub is the 'Explore 3D' feature that has several creative 3D features on it. With the current dearth of 3D source material on DVD, it's nice to have a handy place to experience it and show it to friends. You should really check that out.One negative on this TV, the viewing angle. If you are off-axis, the picture washes out and you lose the experience of seeing really deep blacks.

5Excellent value, from purchase to operating cost
By BajaCapt
We had this TV for one month, we bough it here at Amazon.comAs the title for this review indicates, this TV set is an excellent value for the money.Picture QualityI will start with the picture quality, we got this set connected to a Dish Network HD satellite receiver and the detail is very good for 1080i picture, and depending on the channel since not all Hi Def channels provide the same quality material, this TV does not disappoints, for example, HD Theater and Discovery Channel, 2 of our favorite channels, provide some of the best HD material in the programing choices, the pictures is quite amazing on this quality broadcasts among others... Now with a Sony Blu Ray player connected via HDMI, playing some reference material such as "The Fifth Element Remastered" Blu Ray, the picture detail is simply as good as it gets... The colors are accurate, bright and natural looking, the blacks are deep and give a great look to the overall picture.I also appreciate the HDMI jack in the left side of the TV, I use this to hook up my HD camcorder to review our footage prior to editing on my computer, this side HDMI connections makes it easy to connect anything from camcorders to Gaming Consoles etc without having to reach around the back. The picture adjustments with the remote are very easy to navigate through after getting yourself familiar with it, one quick word here about the remote, the remote has quite a narrow beam, this means that if you are close to the TV (from lets 4 feet or less, as I was while setting it up for the first time) you must aim the remote at the infrared eye which is in the lower left of the TV, this is less of an inconvenience when you watching the TV at recommended distance of around 9 feet, at this distance the beam has a chance to spread and just aiming it in the general direction of the TV does the job. With that said, the Menu is well laid out and intuitive. The Sound Quality. This is the weak point of this TV, the default sound settings produce a less than desirable sound from anything you have your set tuned in to, however, if you go into the Audio Settings you can somewhat alleviate this by going in the Equalizer Advanced adjustments, there are 5 adjustment bars there of 120KHZ, 500KHZ, 15KHZ, 5KHZ and 10KHZ, in there what I did was to tune down the 10KHZ to minus 8, the 5KHZ to minus 12 (the lowest setting), the 15KHZ to minus 7 and then maxed up the remaining 2 on the left which are the bass settings, by doing this it diminishes the very high treble sounding small speakers that come with the set and this settings gives an overall fair sound for general TV viewing. Now for movies we have a dedicated 5.1 sound system connected via Optical Cable from the Vizio Optical Sound output jack, this works beautiful :) I had considered subtracting a star from the 5 given because of the sound, but after adjusting the default sound settings the sound is fairly adequate for general viewing so I left all 5 stars in there. The remote. As mentioned in the Picture Quality paragraph, the beam is very narrow on the remote, but this is only an issue if you are very close to the TV, if so you will need to aim the remote directly at the infrared eye on the lower left corner of the set, I was sitting very close while doing initial adjustments and that is how I came about to notice this, but once done, the viewing distance from our bed is about 12 feet or so, at this distance the remote operates just fine.It is a fairy comfortable remote with a good layout of the buttons, it is glossy black, it does not have back light illumination, not a big deal to me, but one thing I wish it had was an "Sleep" button, since it is in our bedroom and when you get that sleepy feeling it would be nice to have easy access button to this feature without entering the menu, which is what you need to do to set up the "Sleep" feature. Again, not a reason to subtract a star from the rating, the remote does its job well, perhaps Vizio will add a dedicated "Sleep" button in future sets.Power Consumption. This set shines here again, I connected it to my "Kill-A-Watt" meter and depending on your picture settings, it can variate from 30 Watts to 100 Watts of power consumption, my set with my preferred settings uses 50 Watts of power, I have the backlight set at 45, this is a very bright set so a higher backlight setting is not really needed, but then that is a personal preference. On stand by, this set uses less than 1 watt, this is a highly energy efficient set.Final words. We are very happy with our purchase, I consider this some of my best spent entertainment dollars, great deal from Amazon, great TV set, well packaged and saving money also on the electric bill, if you need a TV set on this size range, you should definitively consider this Vizio, you will not be disappointed.

5Finally went HD!!!!
By John P. Tracy
The Mrs. said I had to wait for my 32 inch Sony tube TV to finally croak before justifying a new TV, and I am so happy it did (I swear I wasn't kicking the old TV honey!) I did a ton of research and found the Vizio Razor to be the best bet for the $$ (under $600 at the local wholesale warehouse), and I could not be happier. I also looked at the (non-LED) Vizio 37" LCD TV (E370VA) for about $150 less, but I was really attracted to the LED backlight technology, and considering what all these HD flat screens cost a couple years ago, I figure the expense is worth it. My 32" Sony was over $800 ten years ago!Setup was easy, really the hardest thing is understanding the best way to hook up the TV to my Comcast DVR box and other components. Definetely use the digital connectens (HDMI to DVI on my older DVR Cable box), or you wont get the 1080p resolution!!! The on screen menu system and remote are easy to use, and the getting started guide (which I looked at after setting up the TV for giggles) was informative and covered the bases without being too confusing. I was amazed that the remote worked on my cable box with out having to input any codes, but I did have to set it up for my DVD, and that took a little research online at vizio.com.The picture is so clear even on non-HD channels it is silly, but when you watch HD programs you really can appreciate the technology. The built in speakers are good, but I did connect the system to an old surround sound system I already owned so both the sound and picture are amazing. The system uses so much less power and space than my old TV, I wouldnt be surprised if my electric bill is lower! I just need a crane to get the old beast out of my house.

4Good Value
By J. Rodricks
I bought this TV in store for 629 which is what it's going for from Target through Amazon.I had been in the market last year but ended up passing because I wanted the power savings of an LED backlight but it was a large premium at the time. My other issue is that I don't have room for anything bigger than a 37" TV. Frustrated, I gave up.This was bought as a gift though I had been very close to buying it for myself. This TV is extremely bright and has an ambient light sensor that does it's job well. I configured the video to my eye and am very happy with what I am able to get out of it. Note that I am a photographer and am very picky about color tones. This TV is very adjustable and allows you to adjust anything a consumer would want. There are also a variety of useful presets which are actually quite good (ie: movie, football, baseball, gold, vivid).I did very little adjusting of the sound out of the box. It's well balanced and can get loud enough. It's fine, not great. I'd say it's above average for a TV but nothing compared to a dedicated sound system. The TV does feature pretty good de-noise video processing. However I've had better luck keeping sharpness turned down. 1080i from Comcast isn't a great signal so I cany fault the TV. 1080p Blurays look stunning so I know the TV is capable of displaying really great video.Overall I'm very pleased with this TV. Though I didn't pay for it, I would have no reservations doing so. Moreover if this TV was available in the price range I was looking for I would just get it. I wouldn't spend time shoppingnfor anything better- this is close to as good as it gets for the price.

4Best 720P SET......
By Michael D'innocenzio
So I was in the market for a 32 inch tv and found this Toshiba to be a great value. I 32 inches, having 1080P isn't necessary and worth the extra cash. I also reviewed the 37 RV525R, which is virtually the same set but with 1080P. It's got good blacks, better than everage. Excellent whites, as most LCD'S have. Handles motion very well despite not having 120 refresh rate. Does a good job with 3:2 pulldown, although you have to turn that feature on, which is the cinema mode turned to film. Viewing angle isn't too great, but then again no lcd is. Once you get 14 degrees off-axis you lose 50% of the picture's contrast. Reflections aren't too bad with this Toshiba, so it's ideal for brightly lit room. Color accuracy isn't too bad but there is a green push which the picture menu allows you to correct. The audio is also very good for a little flat panel, except you get a little vibration with certain dialog with the bass turned all the way up. The remote is excellent and is very user friendly. The menu system is very simple and easy to navigate. Overall, this is a great value. Sure, you will get a better tv with either the Samsung or the Sony, but you will pay more for the extra features they come with. Are they worth it to you? It does, however, outperform the LG,Sharp, and the Panny in most areas. At the price you can grab this for it's hard to turn down. Here are calibrated settings for this tv.. Note: I will keep updating these settings until I feel they are perfect, so keep checking in from time to time.UPDATED SETTINGS..1/2/10...THESE NEW SETTINGS WILL GIVE YOU MORE POP.HDMIMODE: PREFERENCECONTRAST: 48BACKLIGHT: 80DYNALIGHT: OnBRIGHTNESS: 56COLOR: 39TINT: 0SHARPNESS: 0ADVANCED PICTURE SETTINGS:DYNAMIC CONTRAST: OFFSTATIC GAMMA: 0COLOR TEMP: WARMB DRIVE: 0G DRIVE: -5NOISE REDUCTION:DNR: OFFMPEG REDUCTION: OFFTHEATER SETTINGS:PICTURE SIZE: NATIVE(HDMI)CINEMA MODE: FILMAUTO ASPECT RATIO: OFFI gave it a four star only because of the speaker vibration during certain dialog and the major color adjustment it needed, but for the money, I could have easily given it a five star.

4Great TV for the price
By J. Rodriguez
Got this in today. UPS delivered with a hole in the box and broken styrofoam blocks. TV was fine, though. No dead pixels and everything is functional. Picture is very good with strong clarity and fine tuning controls that help a lot. Black levels are better than my Philips 1080P set!Setup is a bit lengthy and the manual is not as detailed considering how big it is. Play with the controls for awhile and you'll get the gist of the tuning controls for picture.Works with cable or Antenna OTA signals just fine. Strong signal too with a signal meter that is very helpful. If using OTA HD antenna, set the TV to an "antenna" input and then do a channel search. Once it worked, the OTA signals look better than the HD Uverse. The sound is VERY clear with a decent bass to it. Compared to a Sony, Samsung, and Panasonic that I listened to at a store this was MUCH better sounding.Channels change quickly with the remote. Remote is universal with up to two other input controls. Size of text on the screen is good without being too big. Info buttons show the display of the show info very quickly. Will put on a good power surge protector after reading a post about power supply issues. Most of that tends to be because of power flucuations from the socket or cheap surge protectors. However, sometimes things just die as I've seen on both regular and HDTV's.Excellent set overall. I compared this to my 42" 1080P set and the difference was minor. Awesome for the bedroom, den, or even a main HDTV.Will update if I have any problems. Paid with Amex so that I double the warranty for free.

5Standard definition signals look better than the standard def on other 720p TVs
By Quoad Toad
I bought the Toshiba 32AV502R for my elderly grandpa. I wanted to get something for him that was easy to use and took up very little space. This TV is working out perfectly for him. He watches TV solely in standard definition. The picture on this Toshiba is better than either of my Panasonics in SD. The colors appear vibrant even in standard definition. The picture in standard definition isn't perfect of course and will likely not impress people used to HD TV. For my grandpa though, this isn't an issue. He likes the picture and is able to use the remote easily. We also tested the TV in HD and found the image to be quite pretty. The blacks were dark and the colors were vibrant. The TV fits nicely on my grandpa's smallish credenza and doesn't overwhelm his small bedroom. The case is shiny and the speakers are unobtrusive.Overall, my grandpa has had a great experience with this TV and so far it has been the perfect TV for his small space.
