1Terrible ghosting and triple ball effect
By Joe T.
I received my 4069f about 10 days ago and just hooked it up after Direct TV installed my HD dish on this past Saturday. I have the Direct TV DVR and it came with an HDMI cable. I first noticed a problem when watching football. On a far shot when the ball is going through the air you see multiple balls. I then noticed trails when watching Law and Order. When someone turned their head you would see trailing. I called Samsung and they stated there is a known issue with this model and I require a firmware update to get rid of what they called triple ball effect. How do they ship out a product with such a major flaw is beyond me but hopefully the firmware upgrade will correct the problem. They ship it out to you on a thumb drive and then you plug it into the USB port. I will post what happens after I receive and install the upgrade.Update 12/28/2007:Okay after writing this review I started to read the reviews for the Samsung 4071f and noticed users were experiencing some of the problems as with my 4069f unit. There was a good bit of talk about the 120hz being a problem and basically useless. I went into setup and turned off the 120hz option and poof the ghosting on tv shows like Law and Order and CSI vanished. Samsung support had me turn off digital noise reduction previously. If I turn either option on the ghosting appears but with them off the picture is great. However, the triple ball effect (TBE) is still present when watching football. I should receive the firmware update in the mail today or tomorrow so hopefully that will remedy the TBE problem.Update 1/16/2008:Okay, as I said in my last update, turning off the Auto Motion Plus 120hz cured most of the problems. I waited for the firmware update to be mailed out but never received it (Samsung input my mailing address incorrectly). They did send me an email with a link to the firmware and instructions on how to do the upgrade. Installing the firmware onto a thumb drive and then onto the tv was pretty straight forward. One thing to note is the email link for the firmware expires in 1 week so download it along with the instructions. Also, the tv will only update if there is a newer firmware version on the thumb drive.I went through and uncompressed the firmware onto the jump drive. Important Note: The firmare is labled for the 4071 model. These models are virtually identical and share the same firmware!!! After loading the firmware I set the Auto Motion Plus to low and the triple ball effect is indeed gone. Samsung recommends setting Auto Motion Plus to low and ONLY for sporting events and other programs with fast moving motion. They say to turn it off for regular programs. Here is the URL to what Samsung says about TBE on the 4071 model: For some reason the URL won't post but if you go to the Samsung site under Support and then News and Alerts you will see a report for the Triple Ball Effect and LNT series 71 LCDs. This also applies to the 69 series; I highly recommend reading this alert!

5excellent true 1080p/120 Hz
By Luca De Simone
Samsung LNT4069FX 40" 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTVIf you are looking for a 1080p with 120Hz refresh rate, this is the right choice. I had this TV for about 2 weeks and I am absolutely satisfied. It is a light, very nice looking TV. Has an amazing matte screen (less reflective) and has all the features you will need for the future. The standard HDTV is still 720p on cable, but this TV is 1080p and has a refresh rate of 120Hz, that allows perfect showing of movies (120 is a multiple of 24, the number of slides per second in a film). The speakers are good and I feel no need for buying new ones.has a USB port where you can put a flash drive to see pictures or play music.Even the regular TV signal (480) looks fine.Great TV and great Shipping company (eagle) with a great service.

5One of the best LCD TVs
By Z. Sabir
I spent two weeks in researching the best TV I can find under $2000. I looked at various TVs including Plasma, DLP, LCDs at Bestbuy and Frys and read lots of reviews on different websites before making a final decision.Arguably, LCD is the best technology these days and Samsung and Sony are the leaders in this space. Among all the LCDs out there LNT 4069 is the best with unbelievable picture quality. You have got to watch NFL and NBA games in HD on this TV. Once you have this TV don't try to play too much with the Default settings. For your cable channels, TV will adjust the screen size according to quality of the signal.

Product Description

Sony's 46-inch Hi-Scan 1080i KP-46WT520 is equipped to turn your living room or board room into a movie theater. The set uses Sony's HD Microfocus CRT and lens system, featuring smaller phosphor particles, thinner phosphor layers, and other improvements that give the set a beam spot 28-percent smaller than Sony's standard CRTs. And that means sharper focus, higher contrast, and brighter images. The screen features a wide, 16:9 aspect ratio that matches the dimension of most movies and HDTV broadcasts, and the KP-46WT520 is compatible with standard-definition 480i, enhanced-definition 480p, and high-definition 720p and 1080i sources.

5The BEST value for the money!
By Method2Madness "Alex"
Right off the bat I can, with a straight face and calm hands, say this is THE best television I have EVER owned! And probably one of the best I have ever seen! I have been in the A/V industry for a while and pretty much consider myself an A/V guru. I have been through and previewed countless televisions as I am constantly upgrading and none compare to this one. When I was shopping for an HD widescreen, as most do, I factored in price, features and most of all quality. I did NOT want to spend thousands of dollars on something that would not be worth the initial investment. That being said, I looked into the LCD and CRT rear projection market, with a strong lean towards CRT projection. Now, I expected there to be a signifigant difference in picture between the CRT projectors and the LCD/DLP/LCOS units. I was wrong. Dead wrong. While some of the higher dollar sets apppeared to be a LITTLE sharper, the price to performance ratio was NOT justifiable and this set even bested a couple DLP units! Also the LCD units are basically charging more for a VERY similar picture! The only REAL benefit of the "other" formats is....weight! Honestly!Bottom line: Super clear picture(ESPECIALLY with an HD source), great on features and the price is perfect. There is NO reason to spend more on a technology that is still getting the kinks out.

5Excellent Home Cinema
By Lou Goodman
If you really love the theatrical eperience and don't want to invest that much money on those Plasma systems, this is an excellent option. Sony gives their best in a High Definition Wide Screen Wega Projection TV. You just have to plug in your home theater and you need nothing more. It is full of very easy to use functions and the image looks really sharp, if you can get a High Definition DVD you will be amazed, the image looks awsome. In addition of this TV, I recommend you to buy the matching SONY TV stand, the model number is SU-46WT11, this would really complete your purchase!

5Love this TV...
By ThisThatNEverything
This Wide Screen Projection TV is really awesome & has many special features to it & you don't have to be a genius to figure it out. Some of the features that I really like:There is a choice of 4 different viewing modes, which is a really nice. There is a Side By Side viewing option that allows you to watch 2 different shows at a time & it's very easy to switch back & fourth between the 2 & you can adjust the size to make 1 large & the other small if you want.I love the Favorite Channels button that you can program your favorite channels & when you are watching a show you press favorites & a little box will pop up & you can switch through stations on that little box to see if something else is on & if so you just select it. Basically you are able to see what else is on without interrupting your current show. The Freeze button is neat because if something is on the screen such as a phone number that you want to write down or something you can press freeze & another screen will pop up with that frozen screen & your show will continue on in the other box.The picture is really great on this TV as well as the sound so I recommend this TV to anybody.

4Feature Loaded, Not Exactly Perfect...
By Andrew Sipe
Since this is my FIRST HDTV purchase and my user experiences with HD Televisions in the past have been limited, I can't say that I'm an expert on the subject of HDTVs. The following is MY experience with this purchase and ultimately my opinion...After purchasing this HDTV from Amazon, I waited in anticipation for EAGLE to deliver it as soon as possible. It was scheduled to come during the week of Jan 4-10 and surprisingly came almost a week earlier. I was delighted. After asking the Delivery person to help me move the HDTV to my living room, against EAGLE's policy, he agreed to help. The box was definitely large and cumbersome, though it didn't weigh nearly as much as stated, probably closer to 60lbs. Muscling it up some stairs and depositing it into my living room. I thanked him and proceeded to unpack the HDTV.It came packed in a very large box with a break-away base, this allowed me to lift the box off without actually removing the HDTV from it secure Styrofoam base. All four corners were also secured with large blocks of Styrofoam packaging.Against the stated warning, I -alone- lifted the TV onto a 60" credenza in my living room. Since all the major parts are housed in the base of the HDTV, it was counter-balanced well, unlike standard TVs which are primarily top/front heavy. The base is roughly a 4" high, 18" deep, and 30" wide pedestal, and the TV measures about 55" wide, and about 45" high. All the inputs are on the RIGHT (Rear and Side). The Power cord is in the middle of the rear.I have a Stereo Receiver, Comcast Digital Box, DVD Player and Xbox360 that I hooked up to this television. Both the DVD player and Xbox360 occupy the two component inputs and two RCA inputs. The Digital Box is through the Digital coaxial and standard coaxial inputs achieved with a supplied coaxial splitter. Unoccupied at this time are the two HDMI inputs -the only inputs that support 1080p-, the VGA input, the other two RCA inputs and a Cable Card input.I have had exceptional reactions to the quality and performance of the JVC HD-56FN97. Out of the box, it's not perfect. The first run though was to set up the Digital Cable. It performed a standard channel scan, going through all the standard channel signals and then any Digital channel signals. After this set up, I flipped through a few of the channels. I wasn't overly impressed with the color or picture, but after fiddling with the color setting in the HDTV's menu -which is a complete mess- I was able to get satisfactory coloring. There is a noticeable green cast on some channels. Since I don't have an HD channel package through my cable provider, the standard cable did not take full advantage of my HDTV's capabilities. The picture looked rather flat, grainy and did not support the wide screen format. There's an Aspect menu feature that lets you change this format from Panorama (simulated 16:9), Cinema (zoomed and cropped 4:3), Full (stretched 4:3) and Standard (4:3). Most of the time while watching Cable, it was set for Standard (4:3).Next, I set up the Xbox360. One of the most frustrating problems I had with the JVC HD-56FN97 was the Input selection menu. It wasn't intuitive nor was it easy to maneuver through. Using the remote -which was less than aesthetically pleasing- I had to scroll through a list of inputs, wait till the TV received the signal, and then scroll to the next, till I reached the desired input. This was done using the remote's directional pad or the CH+ CH- buttons and then selecting the OK button. I would have preferred a direct button to go to the desired input. This was Not expected for a Next-Gen television. The settings menu was set up the exact same way, being even more involved and less intuitive. You'll probably use the manual often till you get comfortable with all the less than descriptive names JVC used. The picture quality of the Xbox360 was probably the BEST. Though I had to set it to 1080i, the highest HD signal the component inputs would allow. The colors were vibrant, the picture was crisp, and during game play there was very little blur noticeable. I played both Gears of War and Call of Duty 2, and was very impressed with the overall picture quality and performance. This TV was made for GAMING.DVD's on the other hand did not seem as crisp. More noticeable while watching full screen DVDs, and less so with Wide screen DVDs. The coloring and picture was still better than Standard TV. The Wide screen DVDs used the auto-detected wide screen (16:9) format also. I have yet to experience HD-DVD or Blu-ray DVDs, but would imagine that the output would be even better. This is an impressive television for MOVIES.My only true complaint is the remote and menu system. A work around I've found was with the purchase of the Logitech Harmony universal remote for Xbox. After setting all my components up, using it's computer based programming feature, I was able to set specific buttons for all my inputs finally. Of course, this remote offers more useful features (such as Activies), but that's for a different review. In conclusion, the JVC HD-56FN97 HDTV is a great home theater / gaming television with ample features and inputs and exceptional quality and performance. At the price it's also great buy considering all the inputs and features. I failed to mention earlier; the LCoS projector technology that JVC uses -under the HD-ILA name- is also exceptional. I have yet to see any rainbow effects or any "pixelation". I imagine my impressions will only grow when I take full advantage of the two HDMI inputs. JVC makes an affordable, quality HDTV.I hope this review is helpful towards making your informative HDTV purchase.

5Great Picture,cooling fan a little noisy
By Broadcast Bob
Cablevision Hd Channels look great on this set. Cooling fan a little noisy but not a deal breaker. Tv will need setup for best pictureA lot cheaper then the equivalent Sony and didnt see any differencebetween the two sets in the store. SD Channels look good on this set even when expanded to fill the screen. Paid around 1500 for this TV and I amvery happy with it.

3Works great for what I paid for it
By Craigslistholic
Just bought the TV from the Craigslist 2 days ago. Perfect condition, 2 mo old lamp. For $90. That's right.Would I buy this TV for more than that? Probably not more than $150.The best picture on this TV comes from Blu-ray, X-Box, pretty much any source with true 1080p output. Next in line is Netflix streaming via my laptop through HDMI port. With upscaling DVD player via HDMI, the picture becomes slightly more coarse, and colors get more washed out, but still OK to watch.Anything else outside the HDMI looks bad, even component video from my Pioneer Elite DV-45A (not upscaling). Maybe using the receiver that could upgrade component to HDMI help, I don't know. The fan is noisy, but tolerable. Audio is acceptable, and covers the fan noise even at lowest volumes. The TV can work as a center channel, too. Despite the size, it's quite light (~80#), and easily transportable by 2 people.Overall, I'm REALLY happy with paying $90 for 56" rear-projection 1080p in perfect shape, as I am planning to get PS3 anyway.

4Bought it from Office Depot.
By finfam
I wanted to write a review because the only other reviews were very negative. I've only had the TV for a week, I will try to keep you updated if anything changes. So far it's been fine. Is it the best picture I've ever seen on a 32"? No. I'm watching it with an analog signal using a S video cable, and the picture is just fine, especially for the price. I haven't hooked up my PS3 to check out the HD, I have it on a larger TV. I bought this TV for $379 + tax, and I couldn't be happier at this point.

1Manufacturers Warranty Only Applies in Mexico
By Evan R. Chavez
Do not buy this LCD! I purchased this TV from Office Depot this week and assumed like most new electronics it would have a one year warranty. Turns out the warranty card, which is Spanish only (a friend had to translate it for me), says the one year manufactures warranty is only valid in Mexico. No warranty + very few reviews online + questionable brand = very shady. If you don't care about the warranty you may as well get a cheap refurb. At least you'll get 90 days.

5Great TV for the price!
By Joshua Glenn
I was looking for an entry level HDTV and this one fit the bill. It arrived a day early from across country and came without any scratches. No dead pixels, easy to mount it on the stand. 360 runs beautifully and my Blu Ray player also. Regular TV looks amazing now. TV Menu is easy to use. The only quarrel I have is that it's a little slow-going powering up and switching from TV to a video source and back. But it's still acceptable. Remote control is easy to use and understand. Great TV for the money!

5Outstanding Full HD Bang for your Buck!
By Neil C. McEvoy
I've had great experience with LG products - so my purchase of a 47" Full HD set from LG seemed logical. The picture on my 47LG50 is terrific! Setup out of the box was very intuitive, although I would recommend that the set's picture be set to "standard" instead of "vivid" (torch mode is set by default).Even when powered off, this set is beautiful. Its piano black case frames the 47" screen very well, although it is more susceptible to fingerprints. The set offers three HDMI 1.3 inputs and more connection options than one would normally need.I couldn't give this set a stronger recommendation!

5Great color and picture....
By tony
Pros - The TV has great color and picture quality. It's worth it for the price listed. No Motion blur with Verizon FIOS cable.Cons - The TV gets a slight distortion on certain camera angles when watching high action sports such as football. This is very unnoticeable to most of my friends but I'm a very picky person and can tell on certain camera angles or plays when watching sports the TV tends to get static. The speaker system has a Tru SRS surround feature which is useless along with a clear voice option. The speaker/surround feature could be better. I just use the default sound options for no added surround features from the TV.A few things to take in to consideration.1 - Make sure your TV room as adequate space. If you don't have at least 10-12 feet between you and your HDTV of this size you might get nausea. The TV can be overwhelming since its 47 inches big and looks totally different in your living room compared to in store.2 - Make sure you fine tune the colors and lower the back light as it's very powerful. My Tv is tuned to a 60 backlight 80 contrast 55 brightness.3 - Make sure you get an extended warranty with any HDTV you buy even if its not this model. HDTV's are highly susceptible to dead pixel lines. Most warranty's don't cover a dead pixel line unless it covers a certain area of the TV.4 - Use a HDMI cable that's oxygen free and shielded. You can buy one online for like 10$ instead of 100$ at your local shop.

4Has clouds, but I still love it
By Travis Dockweiler
I previously had a Westinghouse 42" 1080p LCD that went bad after just 6 months! I used my service plan and got a full refund since they didn't even want to touch the thing. The only problem i've found that that the prices in 6 months actually increased and suddenly I found that 42" 1080p LCDs were less common.I first went with the Samsung LN-S4695D. I had some major issues with that so returned it for this. I originally skipped this Sony for the Samsung because it was cheaper. When I purchased this I knew of the cloud issue and had them deliver it and crossed my fingers. Turned it on and after awhile I noticed clouds. The problem in all honesty does not bother me AT ALL EVER. I think in the 4-5 months i've owned this i've noticed it once or twice. Please note that I almost NEVER watch TV in the dark. If you do, maybe it's more of a problem. Sony's claim that it's "normal" is such a joke. How could you ship out thousands of these LCDs with this issue and knowing it's there? I've knocked off a star due to this. For the price you pay on this thing (it was more expensive when I bought it months ago) you'd expect it to be perfect. My first Sony was. It's not true that there is no PERFECT TV out there. There is.Anyway, I immediately calibrated this using AVIA and DVE and the picture quality is even better than any previous TV i've owned by far. This thing has so many features in the menu system that you could spend hours just configuring it to get it right. I disliked the menu system on the Samsung and this one is so much better. It's really easy to navigate and not slow. This also has so many different types of connections. Three HDMI ports. Most people think two is enough, but I don't agree. I currently use all three. Switching inputs on previous Sony televisions was a pain. Now it's a little bit easier. To press a button to display 'external inputs' and switch to the one you want. You can even label the inputs. I have mine set to PC, Wii, PS3, Cable and DVD PLAYER.Games show no ghosting at all that i've noticed. A couple times i've noticed very slight motion smearing on really low quality cable TV. It's extremely rare and i'm going to blame my cable provider because it never happens on DVDs or anything else.I don't use the TV speakers but I do when I connect my HD antenna up. That's about once every 2 weeks for NBA games in HD. Some would complain it sounds bad but they've probably never heard sound from other LCDs. My mother's plasma display has such bad sound that it sounds like it's coming from a $2 speaker. Honest. It's impossible to listen to it it's so bad. The sound from the speakers isn't good, but acceptable. My guess is that a large percentage of the people that buy a TV this expensive have a home theater system. I currently use a Yamaha Sound Projector since i'm in an apartment. The design is much better than my Samsung I previously tried out. The only problem is that it will not tilt/rotate like the Samsung did. Not a big deal for me but it would have been nice. The design on the back is not good. It's hard to access all the HDMI and cable inputs. I'd imagine it's like this due to some people wanting to mount this on a wall? It's nothing that bad.HD-DVDs and Blu-Ray movies are pretty amazing on this thing. Same goes for Playstation 3 games. DVD movies even look good but it depends on the DVD quality. Old movies don't really look good. I'm mainly talking about DVDs that came out when the players cost a fortune. I've compared the picture quality between an upconverted movie and one that's not and I definitely notice a huge difference.I will admit though that my Oppo DVD player hates this LCD. It will display dark scenes but they will contain greenish tint/macroblocks etc. I thought it was the LCD but i've tried 5 others and this does not occur. I've tried many ways to fix this with not much luck. I currently use the Denon 575 and so far so good.Standard "Digital" cable still looks terrible in most cases. I don't have HD cable yet and my cable provider's picture quality is terrible. That's all. It's not the TV's fault. Too bad I can't get Satellite TV out here.I also was pretty impressed with the results I got when I connected my PC to this. Seeing your desktop at 1080i is pretty nice. I don't really use this feature though much. I've played a game that supports widescreen at that high of resolution (Final Fantasy XI) and it looks pretty good!Other than the few negatives above, I can't think of many. I've waited months to post a review. I really wanted to give it some time. So far i've not experienced many problems at all.The cloud issue might make it a risk buying this. Maybe they've fixed the problem already. Even with the cloud issue it's still a good TV. BTW my clouds are nearly impossible to see until I have a completely black screen and my lights are down. I have them on the top left and bottom left. When the actual movie plays they are GONE. Completely unless a scene is completely black, not just a little dark.If I run into anything bad i'll update this review. So far, so good!

4Wonderful!
By Maximum
We got this TV about a month or so ago and love it. It really shines displaying HD. Nature shows on HD Discovery are unbelievable with out-of-the-box color calibration seeming very good to my eye. I can still picture the vivid snake scales and close ups of Mantises (Mantisi?) days after watching them on this set.The only downside is that I notice some macro-blocking if I sit within about 6 feet. Not really a problem though since we usually sit further back. Also, I think this may be an issue with the content encoding rather than the TV itself.I've read in forums that some people are disappointed in the non-HD performance of the TV. However, while it really does shine in HD, I find it totally acceptable when viewing the occasional non-HD content.Definitely worth checking out if you are in the market for a high end TV and plan on watching lots of HD. I also can't wait to try this set with an XBOX 360 and/or PS3 :-)

3perfect TV set... unless viewed in the dark
By RRS
Honestly, this about the best 1080p TV you can buy right now. Everything about it screams quality -- the incredibly vivid image, the absurd amount of inputs, and the striking physical design. However, if you watch dark films (say, the Godfather, or Underworld: Evolution) in the dark (as in a movie theater), you will quickly be exposed to the set's weakness: the so-called cloudiness defect. On a totally dark image, you will see lighter-than-black patches, which will mean an uneven blackness level, and thus a distracting "cloud" effect when the camera moves through a dark scene. Don't be surprised if you end up feeling very frustrated at this.I give the set 3/5 stars -- but it would have been 5/5 easily if not for the clouding problem.

4Good not Great.
By CM
Great picture, once you get all the settings fixed, great sound, limited to useless online experience (unless you have an Ultimate NetFlix membership for streaming), and you must play games in PC mode or else you'll experience lag and jitter that will make playing any video game impossible.Make sure you turn off the auto lighting-adjustment nonsense installed on this TV, it will cause all sorts of problems.***update **** I have had this TV since early December and I still love looking at it, the only downside is the lack of any online content, apps or purpose with this television. Phillips really missed the boat on getting hooked up with Amazon, Netflix or other similar companies, if you want an online rich television this is not it.*** update 2 *** While the sound is terrific, there seems to be some kind of limit on the volume to protect against blowing the speakers and if you really want to rock out you'll need to purchase a sound bar or other speaker system.

2Plagued with Problems
By Stephen T. Jones
As a previous owner of a 42" Philips LCD TV I was expecting the same quality that was delivered in my first purchase. Out of the box this TV appeared capable of everything advertised but after a few days i realized that Netflix and the other web enabled programs were very limited in functionality. One peculiar item to mention is that if your using Netflix the sleep timer is not available, that is rediculous! You cannot search Netflix, only play whats in your Instant Queue. So I decided to buy a Roku box which solved all this nonsense. Not to mention this TV doesnt come with a wireless adapter.Secondly, and the most irritating thing is that even with the latest software update, 11-24-2010, the TV freezes about once or twice weekly, when this occurs the remote is not active so you have to unplug the TV and wait a second or two and then power it up again. It became such a hassle to reach behind the set to the power cord located low in the back,(my arm could just barely reach from the top) I started using a remote control power switch so i can turn off the power and restore from across the room.Next pet peeve is there is no analog out on the set, no earphone jack, nothing, so i need to buy a Gefen Digital to Analog device costing 50 dollars or more to be able to use my analog amplifier-speakers.I am very disappointed with this TV. My last Philips purchase I'm sure!

3The WIFI Mediaconnect Does Not Work
By J. Pingel
I got the set for under 700 bucks from Sams Club. It came with a wireless dongle. Was easy to set up and install. The Net TV(Netflix, vTuner and Twitter only options) function great. The WIFI Mediaconnect that is supposed to allow you to project your PC to the tv through your network does not. "IF" this had worked the limited offerings on Net TV could be overlooked. Tech support was little to no help. It would be a 5 star set otherwise.
